Global climate change, being caused primarily by the building up of
Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) in the atmosphere, is a serious
environmental concern for the world community. The
Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), established in
1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United
Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), concluded in its Fourth
Assessment Report, released in November 2007, that the fact of
global warming is unequivocal and there is enough evidence to
indicate that this is due to anthropogenic reasons. Recent years
have been the warmest since 1860, the year from when regular
instrumental records are available. India has always been subject
to a large degree of climate variability. This is likely to be
accentuated by climate change. As a part of voluntary actions to
address climate change related concerns, India launched National
Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) on June 30, 2008. It stresses
the need to maintain a high growth rate for improving living
standards of the vast majority of people of India and at the same
time to reduce their vulnerability to the adverse impacts of
climate change. This book is an attempt to explain the impending
perils of climate change and underscore the need for timely
remedial measures to deal with the emerging crisis.
The creation of World Trade Organization (WTO) in 1995 marked the
biggest reform of international trade since 1948. During those 47
years, international commerce was conducted under General Agreement
on Tariffs and Trade (GATT) which helped establish a prosperous
multilateral trading system. WTO is the only international body
dealing with the rules of trade between nations. At its heart are
the WTO agreements, the legal ground rules for international
commerce and for trade policy. The agreements have three main
objectives: (a) to help trade flow as freely as possible, (b) to
achieve further liberalisation gradually through negotiations and
(c) to set up an impartial means of settling disputes. A number of
simple, fundamental principles run throughout all the WTO
agreements. They are the foundation of the multilateral trading
system. They include: non-discrimination, freer trade, predictable
policies, encouragement to competition and extra provisions for
less developed countries. Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) are an
integral part of Indias foreign trade policy, complementing the
multilateral trading system. Prior to economic reforms process
initiated in 1991, India had adopted a very cautious and guarded
approach to regionalism. Recognising that RTAs would continue to
feature prominently in world trade, India has lately engaged with
its trading partners/blocks with the intention of expanding its
export market. The present volume contains 8 well-researched papers
on Indias position in the context of WTO and regional trade
agreements. Authored by distinguished scholars in the field, these
papers provide deep insights into the complexities of Indias
commercial relations with the outside world.

For readers of Khaled Hosseini, Daniyal Mueenuddin, and Mohsin
Hamid, a remarkable, award-winning book about the tribes of
Pakistan and Afghanistan.
In this extraordinary tale, Tor Baz, the young boy descended from
both chiefs and outlaws who becomes the Wandering Falcon, moves
between the tribes of Pakistan and Afghanistan and their uncertain
worlds full of brutality, humanity, deep love, honor, poverty, and
grace. The wild area he travels -- the Federally Administered
Tribal Area -- has become a political quagmire known for terrorism
and inaccessibility. Yet in these pages, eighty-year-old debut
author Jamil Ahmad lyrically and insightfully reveals the people
who populate those lands, their tribes and traditions, and their
older, timeless ways in the face of sometimes ruthless modernity.
This story is an essential glimpse into a hidden world, one that
has enormous geopolitical significance today and still remains
largely a mystery to us.
Jamil Ahmad is a storyteller in the classic sense -- there is an
authenticity and wisdom to his writing that harkens back to another
time. "The Wandering Falcon "reminds us why we read and how vital
fiction is in opening new worlds to our imagination and
understanding.
Research Paper from the year 2011 in the subject Economics -
International Economic Relations, grade: -, Aligarh Muslim
University (Department of Economics), language: English, abstract:
The fundamental principles of the multilateral trading system is to
help trade flow as freely as possible, on the one hand, and deal
with disputes over trade issues on the other. The expansion of
trade has played a dynamic role in the growth of the global economy
since World War II. Trade is important for the development of all
types of economies. But its sustained growth calls for a free and
fair Multilateral trading system. A trading system that is rule
based helps in the expansion of trade. Similarly, a trading system
that lowers trade barriers through negotiations and applies the
principle of non-discrimination promotes trade from developing
countries. Further, the trading system that allows disputes to be
settled effectively and constructively has the added advantage for
the developing countries. The world trading system under the WTO
promises all but its working over the past years since its
establishment has revealed that the pace and pattern of
implementation by different member countries have not been uniform.
More powerful players in the trade space have evolved many new
instruments of safeguarding their national interest while the
weaker players have been forced to implement their commitments.
This has generated asymmetries in the pattern of effective market
access in the different countries of the world economy. In the
light of the above, our objective in this study is primarily to
examine the role of Multilateral trading system under the WTO in
promoting international trade of developing countries in general
and that of India in particular. The purpose of this paper is (a)
to discuss the importance of trade and trading system for
developing countries in general and India in particular (b) to
discuss the asymmetries exist under the WTO which effect the
development proce
No doubt all of us are facing the consequences of climate change
but poor people being the most vulnerable sector of the society may
find them selves in great trouble. Climate change is one of the
most important global environmental challenges, with implications
for food production, water supply, health, energy, etc. Food
security directly or indirectly related to climate changes. Any
alteration in climatic parameters such as temperature and humidity
which govern crops grows will have a direct impact on the quality
of food produced. This book addresses these challenges. The
responsibility for greenhouse gas emissions' increase lies largely
with the industrialized world, though the developing countries are
likely to be the source of an increasing proportion of future
emissions. The projected climate change under various scenarios is
likely to have implications on food production, water supply,
coastal settlements, forest ecosystems, health, energy security,
etc. The adaptive capacity of communities likely to be impacted by
climate change is low in developing countries. The efforts made by
the Kyoto Protocol provisions are clearly inadequate to address the
climate change challenge. T
The story in this book is about a series of 1-(2-
methoxyphenyl)-3-pivaloyl thiourea. substituted guanidine which
were synthesized in good yield by condensation reaction of
1-(2-methoxyphenyl)-3- pivaloyl substituted thiourea with different
aromatic amines by using HgCl2 as guanilating agent. These
guanidines have a very high tendency to coordinate with Cu (II).
All the spectroscopic results indicate that guanidines act as
bidentate ligands through oxygen and nitrogen atoms. The products
were characterized by using FT-IR, NMR (1H, 13C) and magnetic
susceptibility techniques. The guanidines and their copper
complexes were also subjected to various microorganisms in order to
establish their bactericidal activity. In short this book is very
much beneficial both for bigginers and for higher research
scholars.
